  • Good morning! If you enjoyed Part One of my Black Men Reading Series🖤exchange with Chef Omar Tate (@coltrane215) then check out PART TWO up on the blog today - Link in bio😍. Today Chef Omar talks about the concept for his Black Heritage dining experience @honeysuckle_popup; as well as hearths, poetry, books, and more🔥.
Pictured are two poetry collections by Nikky Finney: Rice (1995), and Head Off & Split (2011).
“For now she stops her kitchen work but/ not her kitchen worry worry. She hears/ the first pulse of thunder break. Her ears/ stretch & preen the bright sure sun and/ half mile of trees, the field. She closes her/ eyes hoping to see where her two honey/ buns are going even before their feet reach/ the fault lines there./
Her brown hands, covered in twice-sifted/ paprika & goose flour, twitch. The morning/ has her mindless & stuttering, forgetting/ her hurricane of work ahead. She touches/ the itch near her nose. A speckle of whitish/ wheat will dot her face there. Her husband,/ the noticer, his hands not even off the copper/ knob, will reach, sweetly, for her dark dark/ gingerbread of face, poppy of white.” - from “Negroes With Guns” by Nikky Finney.
